John A. Gorda, 63, of Shavertown, passed away on Friday morning, August 15, 2014, at his home.John and his loving wife, Theresa (Krouse) Gorda, would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on October 04, 2014.Born on May 2, 1951, in Kingston, John was the son of the late John and Irene (Hovan) Gorda.John graduated from Dallas High School, Class of 1969.John honorably served his country for six years as an Army Reservist with the 109th Field Artillery, Kingston.For much of his life, John was in business with his father. They owned and operated the Gorda’s Sunoco Service Stations and then later turned the stations into commercial office buildings. John also owned and operated Gorda’s Fuel Oil and J. Gorda Used Car’s.A faithful Catholic, John was a lifelong member of Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville.John greatly enjoyed harness racing and training his racehorses. He held membership with the United States Trotting Association.Calling John handy would be an understatement, he could build and fix just about anything. He enjoyed working on many projects for his family.He was preceded in death by his parents, the late John Gorda and Irene (Hovan) Gorda.In addition to his loving wife, Theresa, John is survived by his three daughters, Valerie Williams and her husband Phil; Jacklyn Eckels and her husband Adam; and Tracey Daniels and her husband Erik; his precious grandchildren, Trevor, Spencer and Harper Williams, Ethan and Austin Eckels and Gemma Daniels; his sister, Patricia Wadas and her husband Frank, of Tunkhannock.Additionally, John is survived by his niece, Tara (Michael) Betts and their daughters; his nephew, Mark (Heather) Wadas and their son; his nephew, Matthew (Anna) Wadas and their daughters; and his aunts, uncles and cousins.Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, August 18, 2014, at 9:30 AM, from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by an Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 271 Tripp Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Gary Mensinger, his Pastor, officiating.Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.Family and Friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.Parastas Services will be celebrated on Sunday evening at 7:00 PM, with the Reverend Gary Mensinger, officiating.For additional information or to send the Gorda Family an online message of condolence, you may visit the funeral home web-site www.wroblewskifuneralhome.com.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made in John’s memory to the Medical Oncology Associates, Prescription Assistance Fund, 382 Pierce Street, Kingston, PA, 18704, or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 960 North Main Avenue, Scranton PA, 18508.
