Joan J. Tometchko, 87, a longtime resident of Dallas, and most recently a resident of Allied Services Center City Independent Living (Saint Luke’s Villa), Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life on Sunday evening, July 12, 2020, at Allied Services Center City Skilled Nursing, following a brief illness.
Her beloved husband was the late Stephen E. Tometchko, who passed away on August 30, 2007. Stephen and Joan were blessed to share 54 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on May 12, 1933, in East Orange, New Jersey, Joan was one of two children born to the late Stephen and Anna (Nice) Desciak.
Raised in Larksville, Joan was a graduate of the former Larksville High School, Class of 1950.
A homemaker most of her life, Joan epitomized the role of homemaker. From cooking to baking, or her expertise at cake decorating, Joan put love into everything she did for her family.
Joan was a faithful Catholic and a longtime member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas.
A very artistic person, Joan loved doing various arts and crafts. She was best known for her scrapbooking and assembling the family photo albums.
Joan was a giving and generous woman who always put the needs of others before her own, and her family was the greatest joy in her life. Her grandchildren always held a special place in her heart and the deep and genuine love she had for them was immeasurable.
In addition to her parents, Stephen and Anna Desciak, and her husband, Stephen, Joan was preceded in death by her infant son, Stephen Tometchko; her daughter, Joanne Marie Armaghan; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Tometchko.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Dianne Ruch and her husband, Ted, Dallas; her son-in-law, Ahmad Armaghan, Kingston; her four grandchildren, Reza Armaghan and his wife, Rebecca; Sarah Armaghan and her husband, Hojjat Ghaderi; Matthew Ruch and his wife, Katie; and Stephen Ruch and his fiancée, Courtney Shields; her great-grandchildren, Charlotte Joanne Ruch and Benjamin Ghaderi; her brother, Stephen Desciak and his wife, Karen, North Dakota; her sister-in-law, Fran Tometchko, Edwardsville; as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 10:00 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM in Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Avenue, Dallas, with the Reverend Leo J. McKernan, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Stephen’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lehman Township.
Family and Friends are invited to attend Joan’s viewing which will be held on Thursday morning, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, at the funeral home.
In keeping with federal and state guidelines arising from the COVID-19 virus, those attending the viewing and funeral service are required to wear a face covering and observe social distancing. These guidelines will be strictly enforced by the funeral home.
