Jean F. Smith, 90, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, January 31, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
She is now happily reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 23 years, Charles Smith, who passed away on November 09, 1978.
Born on January 27, 1934, in Swoyersville, Jean was one of four children born to the late Harry S. (Ostrowski) Ostrosky and Catherine Dziekan Ostrosky.
A lifelong resident of Swoyersville, Jean was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1952.
Prior to her retirement, Jean was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry and held membership with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. After her retirement, she worked part-time in the cafeteria at the Wyoming Seminary Lower School, Forty Fort.
A faithful Catholic, Jean was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
For many years, Jean served as secretary for the Polish Union, Local 321, Wilkes-Barre – taking over the post from her father following his passing.
A woman of many enjoyments, Jean especially enjoyed doing puzzles, reading romance novels, and rooting on her favorite football team, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and golf pro, Tiger Woods.
Jean will be remembered by her family as the best mother and “gammy” they could ever ask for. Her greatest legacy will be the boundless love and devotion she had for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Harry and Catherine Ostrosky, and her husband, Charles, Jean was preceded in death by her three brothers, Joseph Ostrosky, Leonard “Lefty” Ostrosky, and John “Yadi” Ostrosky; and her nephew, Tim Ostrosky.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Sharon Naylor and her husband, Roy, West Wyoming; Mark Smith, Swoyersville; and Tracy Smith and her partner, Raf Rios, Swoyersville; her four grandchildren, Jennifer Naylor; Cassandra Jones and her husband, Rob; Christopher Smith, and Victoria Smith; her five great-grandchildren, Carson, Penelope, Eric, Jakoby, and Evelyn; as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Jean’s wishes, the viewing and funeral service will be private for her immediate family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
