Her loving and devoted husband is Joseph Kardel. Together, Joe and Jean celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 10, 2023.
Born on January 20, 1941, in Newburgh, New York, Jean was the daughter of the late Bernard W. McDermott and Virginia Ann Galbrath McDermott.
Prior to her retirement, Jean was employed as a telephone operator for AT&T Telephone Company for over 34 years. She loved her career and the many friends she made over her years there.
A faithful Catholic, Jean was a longtime member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, New York.
As an animal lover, she tenderly cared for the needs of the feral cats in her neighborhood for many years.
In her earlier years, Jean was blessed to travel the world with her husband, Joe. Together, they visited many countries, sharing beautiful moments at some of the most historic, religious, and majestic sites – memories they both held near and dear to their hearts!
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joseph; her brother, Gary McDermott; generations of nieces and nephews; and her much loved cats.
