Jack C. Melton, 68, a resident of White Haven, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday afternoon, April 06, 2017, at his home, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Born on September 17, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, Jack was the son of the late Herbert Melton and Harriet Borland Melton.
A United States Army veteran, Jack honorably served his country with the 25th Infantry Division for three years during the Vietnam War. He was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Valorous Unit Award, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal Unit Citation – First Class, the National Service Defense Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar, and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his honorable discharge on May 14, 1970, Jack had attained the rank of Sergeant.
Prior to his retirement in 2012, Jack had been employed for 37 years by the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township, working in its maintenance department.
A proud veteran, Jack was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1425, Plymouth.
Jack lived his life to the fullest and he enjoyed many things throughout his life, especially riding his Harley Davidson, hunting and fishing, cooking for his family and friends, and dabbling in one of his pastimes, photography and videography.
An avid sports enthusiast, Jack was a great fan of the Washington Redskins and all the Philadelphia sports teams. He had a passion for NASCAR races and he enjoyed taking many trips with his camper to Pocono Raceway to watch the races.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the nurses and staff of Associated Family Home Health, Kingston, and Arcadia Hospice, Allentown, for the compassionate care they bestowed upon Jack during his time of need.
In addition to his parents, Herbert and Harriet Melton, Jack was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Jack is survived by his four children, Randy Melton and his wife, Trish, Swoyersville; Jaclyn Melton, Plymouth; Josh Melton, Plains Township; and Jeremy Melton, White Haven; his grandchildren, Jared, McKenna and Reilyn Melton; Akira, Raiden, and Nikolai Geiger; his sister, Marilyn Shovlin, Hanover Township; his nieces, nephews, friends, and his dear neighbor and friend, Joe Schumaker.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to join the family for a memorial visitation on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
A private family viewing was held on Sunday, April 10th. Interment with full military honors will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
