Irene Long, 86, a resident of Mountain Top, fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday evening, January 18, 2024, at Mountain Top Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Mountain Top, following a brief illness.
Her beloved husband was the late Arthur H. Long Jr., who passed away on October 26, 2023. Together, Arthur and Irene were blessed to share 61 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on December 05, 1937, in Plains, Irene was one of five children born to the late Michael Pieck Sr. and Olga Drozd Pieck.
Raised in Plains, Irene was a member of the 1955 graduating class of the former Plains Memorial High School.
A devoted homemaker most of her life, Irene was also employed by the American Tobacco Company and the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital over the years.
Irene was a lifelong member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Irene was especially devoted to her grandsons, spending as much time with them as possible. She loved traveling with her family and always enjoyed their trips to Lancaster County and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
In addition to her parents, Michael and Olga Pieck, and her husband, Arthur, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Pieck and Steven Pieck.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, David Long and his wife, Theresa, Mountain Top; and Gary Long and his wife Mary, Pittson; her two grandsons, Morgan and Noah Long; her brother, Michael Pieck Jr. and his wife, Nancy, Plains Township; her sister, Dorothy Sarnick, Plains Township; her sister-in-law, Elaine Buxton, Wyoming; and her several nieces and nephews.
The Long Family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff of Mountain Top Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the excellent care they bestowed upon Irene during the time she resided there.
The viewing and funeral service will be private for the immediate family. A Blessing Service will be celebrated by the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Plains Township.
The Long Family has entrusted the funeral arrangements for Irene to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
