Irene Josephine Drogalis, 83, a resident of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday morning, July 05, 2014, at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility of the Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township.
Her beloved husband was the late Benedict Jerome Drogalis, who passed away on May 19, 2014. Together, Benedict and Irene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 21, 2013.
Born on September 17, 1930, in Swoyersville, Irene was the daughter of the late Michael and Jenny (Olshefski) Makowski.
Raised in Swoyersville, Irene was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School.
Irene was a devoted homemaker and she took great pride in tending to the daily needs of her home and family. A wonderful cook and hostess, Irene always enjoyed entertaining her family and friends in her home.
A faithful Catholic, Irene was a longtime member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish, Luzerne.
Irene was a member of the local Senior Citizens and she enjoyed the various trips she took with the group throughout the years. As her children were growing up, she served as a Girl Scout Brownie Leader and was active with the Wyoming Area P.T.A.
Benedict and Irene were blessed to travel to many different places together during their married life. By far, Irene’s favorite trip was in 2008 when she and Benedict traveled to Europe.
Family was the center of Irene’s life and she cherished every moment she had with her loved ones. Her most joyful times and proudest moments were spent with her beloved grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Michael and Jenny Makowski, and her husband, Benedict, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward and Leonard Makowski; and her sisters, Helen Sorosky and Celia Volley.
Irene is survived by her loving children, Jerome Drogalis and his wife Teresa, Old Forge; Thomas Drogalis and his wife Lori, Orwigsburg; Michael Drogalis and his life partner Robert Maciolek, Flemington, New Jersey; Mark Drogalis and his wife Susan, Blythewood, South Carolina; and Janine Williams and her husband Donald, Harleysville; her grandchildren, Diana, Christina, James, Michael, Lauren, Lisa, Bryan, Ashley, Benedict, Peter and Lea; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
The Drogalis Family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to Dr. Joseph Radzwilka for the excellent care he provided Irene over the years. Additionally, they would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff of both the Wesley Village and Bayada Nurses, for the compassionate care they bestowed upon Irene during her time of need.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Irene’s viewing on Tuesday, July 08, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
Irene’s funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, July 09, 2014 at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne, with the Reverend Michael J. Zipay, her Pastor, officiating.
Entombment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton.
