Irene A. Michaels, 88, a resident of Yatesville and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, September 14, 2015, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following a brief illness.
Her beloved husband was the late Frank J. Michaels, who passed away in August of 1974. Irene was blessed to find love again with her companion of 20 years, Walter Lightner.
Born on January 02, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, Irene was the daughter of the late Stanley and Jennie (Piechota) Wysocki.
A homemaker most of her life, Irene lovingly tended to the daily needs of her home and family. In her earlier years, she was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry.
Irene was a lifelong member of the former Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and currently was a member of Saint Andre Bessette Roman Catholic Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
Irene was a social member of the Dupont V.F.W., where she enjoyed dancing with Walter almost every Saturday evening.
An avid traveler, Irene especially enjoyed taking trips to Myrtle Beach and Florida. She also enjoyed baking for her loved ones, and was renowned for her nut and poppy-seed rolls.
Above all, Irene’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, most especially her grandchildren, who all held a special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, Stanley and Jennie Wysocki, and her husband, Frank, Irene was preceded in death by her daughter, Paulette Michaels Wysocki; her brother, Edmund Wysocki; and her sister, Regina Franckowiak.
In addition to her companion, Walter Lightner, Irene is survived by her son, Frank Michaels and his wife, Dee, Forty Fort; her grandchildren, Kristi-Ann Michaels, Adam Michaels, Christopher Wysocki, Rebekah Wysocki and Jason Wysocki; her brother, Stanley Wysocki, Edwardsville; her sisters, Alfreda Suchocki, Pittston, and Isabelle Meizanis, Plains Township; her numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Robert Engle, Dr. Patrick Kerrigan, Dr. Barry Pernikoff, and the nurses from the C.C.U. Department of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, for the attentive and compassionate care they bestowed upon Irene during her time of need.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to call on Friday, September 18, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
A Blessing Service will be celebrated on Friday evening at 7:00 PM, with the Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, Wilkes-Barre, officiating.
Irene will be laid to rest privately in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dallas.
