Helen Pauline Sartin, 91, formerly of Main Street, Jenkins Township, and a resident of Meadows Manor, Dallas, passed peacefully into eternal life on Friday morning, January 01, 2021, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Inpatient Unit, Dunmore.
Her beloved husband was the late Sherman L. Sartin, who passed away on December 20, 2008. Together, Sherman and Helen shared 58 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on May 20, 1929, in Jenkins Township, Helen was the youngest of nine children born to the late Frank and Helen (Biestek) Niemiec.
A resident of Jenkins Township most of her life, Helen was a graduate of the former Jenkins Township High School, Class of 1946, where she was a majorette. For many years, she, along with her husband, were active with the Jenkins Township Republican Party and the Jenkins Township Lions Club.
Prior to her retirement, Helen was employed for 19 years as an executive secretary for Schott Optical Manufacturing, Duryea.
A devout Catholic, Helen was a longtime member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, where she was a past member of its Altar and Rosary Society, and also served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, administering Holy Communion at Masses, hospitals, and the homes of the sick. She and her husband also led the church Bible Study group; taught the Pre-Cana courses; helped with counting the church collections; and were both active with the church bazaars, which her husband chaired for 10 years. She and her husband were also actively involved with the Diocese of Scranton Marriage Encounter program. In more recent years, Helen attended Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, with her son, Edward, and his family.
Helen was a vivacious woman who was known to be the life of the party and to always be impeccably dressed. She and her husband shared a love for dancing and they enjoyed their many years of line dancing with the Circle 8’ers.
An avid sports enthusiast, Helen was a great fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. In the early years of her marriage when the family resided in New Jersey, Helen coached little league baseball.
Above all, Helen was exceptionally devoted to her family, and the love she had for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was boundless. She was most certainly the best grandmother and great-grandmother one could ask for! Although her presence will be deeply missed, there is much joy in knowing she is reunited in Heaven with her husband and all her family and friends who have gone before her.
In addition to her parents, Frank and Helen Niemiec, and her husband, Sherman, Helen was preceded in death by her only brother, John Niemiec; and her seven sisters, Sophie Ruskey, Agnes Niemiec, Nellie Pascoe, Josephine Lapsansky, Theresa Niemiec, Hedwig Gill, and Mary Kosuth.
Helen is survived by her son, Edward N. Sartin Sr. and his wife, Jean, Swoyersville; her daughter, Theresa Grant and her husband, Donnie, Greensboro, North Carolina; her three grandchildren, Heather Sartin; Edward Sartin Jr. and his wife, Julie; and Thomas Sartin and his wife, Ayelet; her five great-grandchildren, Haley Sartin, John Sartin, Edward “Eddie” Sartin III, Emilia Sartin, and Langston Henderson; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Helen’s walk-through viewing which will be held on Friday, January 08, 2021, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
