On Friday morning, July 02, 2021, Helen A. Steck, a longtime resident of Swoyersville, passed peacefully into eternal rest at the age of 104, completing her long, happy, and beautiful earthly journey, at Chandler Hall Hospice Pavilion, Newtown, Pennsylvania. Helen had resided in Yardley, Pennsylvania with her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Buckanavage, for past two years.
Her beloved husband was the late Joseph S. Steck, who passed away on June 24, 1974. Helen and Joseph were married on September 05, 1936, and together shared 37 years wonderful years of marriage.
Born on January 16, 1917, in Exeter, Helen was the second oldest of seven children born to the late Andrew and Anna (Cerep) Fialko.
Helen’s younger years were spent in Exeter where she received her early education. After the untimely death of her father in a mining accident, she left school and began working to help support her mother and younger siblings.
After her marriage to Joseph, Helen devoted her life to being a homemaker, lovingly tending to the daily needs of her husband and daughters. She took great pride in keeping her home meticulous, and enjoyed tending to her garden.
A faithful Catholic, Helen was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, now Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, where she had the distinction of being one of the oldest members of the parish.
Proud of her Slovak heritage, Helen truly enjoyed upholding her family’s Slovak holiday traditions of cooking and celebrating. Her family was the pride and joy of her life, and she enjoyed traveling to Maine and Yardley to spend time with her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Anna Fialko, and her husband, Joseph, Helen was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lapsansky, Elizabeth Husovsky, and Anna Mae Shelheimer; and her brothers, Andrew and John Fialko.
Helen is survived by her two daughters, Joan Holzwarth and her husband, Dr. Albert, Bangor, Maine; and Barbara Buckanavage and her husband, Robert, Yardley; her six grandchildren, Lisa Holzwarth, Marie Reidman, Jennifer Holzwarth, John Holzwarth, Robert Buckanavage, and Jennifer Bilt; her five great-grandchildren, Hannah Reidman, Hugo Holzwarth, Brendon Buckanavage, Meredith Buckanavage, and Maddox Bilt,; her brother, Joseph Fialko, Tonawanda, New York; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Friday, July 09, 2021, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township.
Family and friends are invited to Helen’s viewing which will be held on Friday morning, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, at the funeral home.
