Harry “Pop” Jacobs, 79, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, June 15, 2014, at the Highland Manor Nursing Center, Exeter, surrounded by his loving family.
His loving wife is Christal (Shukstis) Jacobs. Together, Harry and Christal shared 55 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on December 24, 1934, in Pittston, Harry was the son of the late John and Eleanor (Tompkins) Jacobs.
Raised in Pittston, Harry was a graduate of the former Pittston High School, Class of 1954.
Harry was employed for many years in the local garment industry and later became employed by Medico Industries, eventually retiring from there.
A faithful Catholic, Harry was a longtime member of the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville.
Harry was an avid golfer and bowler, as well as a diehard fan of the New York Giants.
In addition to parents, John and Eleanor Jacobs, Harry was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Dick and Ned Jacobs; his infant brother, George Jacobs; his sisters, Betty Simmons and Clara Roberts.
In addition to his wife, Christal, Harry is survived by his daughters, Gerry Jacobs, Allentown; and Karen Jacobs, West Pittston; his sons, Ron Jacobs, Dallas; and Greg and his wife Anne (Fedor) Jacobs, Mountaintop; his brothers, Walter “Bud” Jacobs, Levittown; and Bill Jacobs, Swoyersville; his sister, Judy Jacobs, West Pittston; his aunt, Ann Jacobs, Exeter; his sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Gerald Gibbons for his many years of care for their husband and father. The family would also like to thank the wonderful and compassionate staff at the Highland Manor for all the care they provided their husband and father during his stay there.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, June 18th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
The Confraternity of Christian Women of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM.
