Harry J. Yekel, 86, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Friday evening, July 14, 2023, at Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter, where he was a rehabilitation patient for the past week.
His loving wife is Ruth Runscavage Yekel. Harry and Ruth were blessed to share 63 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on February 14, 1937, in Wilkes-Barre, Harry was one of three children born to the late Harry P. Yekel and Rose Haas Yekel.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Harry was a graduate of the former E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1954.
A veteran of the United States Army National Guard, Harry honorably served his country for 5 years with the 109th Field Artillery Regiment, Kingston.
Prior to his retirement, Harry was employed for 42 years as a senior mechanic for Diamond Vending Company, Wilkes-Barre.
A man of faith, Harry was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, and, prior to the consolidation, he was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville.
Throughout his life, Harry was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed spending many days at Frances Slocum Park. He also enjoyed working on home improvement projects, and rooting on his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles.
A devoted family man, Harry would do anything for his loved ones and he truly cherished every moment he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Renowned by his family for his great sense of humor, he always had a way of making those around him smile! His presence will be missed beyond words and the memory of him will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Harry and Rose Yekel, Harry was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Horwitz.
cherish Harry’s memory are his wife, Ruth, and their two children, Harry J. Yekel and his wife, Annette Berecin Yekel, Lancaster; and Diane Arguello and her husband, Todd Arguello, Stroudsburg; his four grandchildren, Andrew Yekel, Jack Yekel, Alysa Arguello, and Tessa Arguello; his sister, Marion Ward, Hanover Township; as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Harry’s niece and nephew, Joyce and Jeff Pace, as well as Harry’s cousin and lifelong friend, Jim Charters, for all the loving care and support they bestowed upon Harry over the years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Harry’s viewing which will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
Friends are invited to attend Harry’s Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Friends are kindly asked to proceed directly to the church on Thursday morning as the family will have a private funeral procession to the church.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
