Geraldine A. (Grace) Kovaleski, affectionately known as “Gerrie”, 71, a resident of Plains Township, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Thursday evening, September 25, 2014, at her home.Her loving husband is Joseph S. Kovaleski Sr. Gerrie and her one and only love “Kovy” were high school sweethearts and a true example of soul mates. They were united in marriage on February 24, 1962 and shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Staying true to their vows, Joe faithfully stood by Gerrie throughout her illness.Born on October 08, 1942, in Swoyersville, Gerrie was the only daughter of the late John Grace and Stella “Stephanie” (Szpak) Grace.Raised in Swoyersville, Gerrie was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1960.Prior to her retirement, Gerrie was employed by Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. In her earlier years, she was employed by the former United Pants Factory, Swoyersville.A faithful Catholic, Gerrie was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville. Active within her church, Gerrie, along with her husband, enjoyed volunteering their time making the potato pancakes for their church’s annual bazaar. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville.Gerrie was known for her love of cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed making her various cookies, nut rolls, poppy seed rolls and so much more for the holidays. It was known by Gerrie’s family that she would always be the “Head Chef” for every holiday celebration and family cookout!Gerrie was blessed to travel with her husband, children and grandchildren. Some of the places she loved to visit were Ocean City, Maryland; Cape May, New Jersey; New York City; and Disney World. She also took many trips to Knoebels Amusement Park with all her grandchildren, and enjoyed taking bus trips to the casinos at Atlantic City, New Jersey.Family and friends were always at the center of Gerrie’s life and she cherished every moment she had with her loved ones. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and each one of them held a special place in her heart. Though her presence will be greatly missed, she leaves behind a beautiful legacy that will be treasured forever.In addition to her parents, John and Stella Grace, Gerrie was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, John F. Kovaleski; and her grand-pets, Gizmo, Tasha, Bootsie and Boomer.In addition to her husband, Joseph S. Kovaleski Sr., Gerrie is survived by her children, Joseph S. Kovaleski Jr. and his wife, Maria, Swoyersville; Debbie Ulitchney and her husband, Ronald, Trucksville; and David Kovaleski and his wife, Irene, Plains Township; her grandchildren, Christopher and Bryanna Kovaleski; Stephanie Grace Ulitchney; and David Kovaleski; her sisters-in-law, Joanne Kovaleski, Pittston; Connie Chajko and her husband, Joseph “Chick”, Swoyersville; Mary Occhiato and her husband, Albert, Laflin; her grand-dogs, J.B., Izzy, Sandy and Haley; her grand-kitty, Bella; her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the gentle and compassionate care they bestowed upon Gerrie during her time of need. The family also wishes to thank her private duty nurse, June Krulack; her evening nurse, Britt Giampietro; and especially her sister-in-law, Joanne, for their excellent care and attention to Gerrie and her family.Additionally, the family wishes to thank their neighbors, family, and friends for preparing meals, especially Gerrie’s favorite soup, “Italian Wedding Soup”; and lending a helping hand or giving kind words of support. Also, the family would like to thank Gerrie’s hairdresser, Jen Simonson, for coming to their home to style Gerrie’s hair.Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J.
