Gerald T. “Jerry” Kavinski, 74, formerly of Swoyersville and Kingston, and most recently a guest of the Department of Veterans Affairs Community Living Center, Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life on Sunday evening, November 27, 2022, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born on May 02, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, Gerald was one of eight children born to the late Thomas and Helen Trabish Kavinski.
Raised in Passaic, New Jersey, Jerry was a graduate of Passaic High School, Class of 1967. Following high school, he attended trade school to study electrical engineering.
Jerry honorably served his country with the United States Navy as a Seaman during the Vietnam War, with one year of his service in Saigon, Vietnam.
A member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 102, Parsippany, New Jersey, Jerry was employed by Sano, Inc., Clifton, New Jersey, retiring from there. At Sano, he forged lifelong friendships with many of his co-workers – they were an extension of his family.
Jerry was a proud veteran and a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A man of many enjoyments, Gerald especially enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing. Above all his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family, most especially his grandson, Ian.
In addition to his parents, Thomas and Helen Kavinski, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Ronald, and Thomas “Tim” Kavinski; and his son-in-law, Peter Bayo III.
Jerry is survived by his children, Cheryl Bayo, Swoyersville; and Brian Kavinski and his wife, Peggy, Parsippany, New Jersey; his grandson, Ian Bayo; his brother, David Kavinski, Swoyersville; his sisters, Dorothy Kavinski, Swoyersville; Diane Lugo and her husband, John, Swoyersville; and Patricia Kavinski and her companion, Trit, Poconos; as well as his cherished nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial visitation for Jerry which will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort. A blessing service will commence at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, officiating.
Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
