We first met George when our grandson was playing basketball at WAC. Then at the WA Warriors Ice Hockey games. He was a great coach 🏀 and touched the lives and hearts of many young people and their families. We will miss how he would take our birthdays and anniversaries and take our photos to another level on Facebook. He will be remembered for his kindness and dedication. Rest in peace George 💕🏀🏒

To George's family, I hope you find peace during this time knowing what a remarkable person George is, and still is, fully alive on the other side of life. I remember the first time I saw George playing basketball at Loveland playground on Noyes Avenue in Swoyersville back in the 1970's, he had a 1970 Blue Pontiac GTO car. He would spend hours nightly practicing, or getting pick-up games organized. He was inpirational even back then, as what started out as just George on the court turned in to many other guys coming out to shoot around and this would lead into nightly full court games with alot of kids. I recall even myself getting asked to play and it was something obviously I remember about George. (When you were asked to play on the team, it was as though you made it, I'm good enough to play on his team.) He was my basketball coach at Holy Trinity and was tough, but nice. He truly loved the game of basketball . Nearly 45 years later Coach Barilla still remembered me and made at least me always feel welcome.

My condolence's to Sherene, Jennifer, Kyra, family and countless friends. He helped so very many during his coaching career. Happenings at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton will never be the same without George. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed! George's knowledge of electronics and cameras, which he shared with all the community, was incredible. He loved everyone and above all his Catholic faith. RIP

Sherene,Jen,BJ, & Kyra, George was one of a kind. We all enjoyed and cherished his friendship. He will be deeply missed! Seeing his car with the flags on top always made me smile! He was so loyal to his teams and the best fan! Ron and Matt really enjoyed going to games with him or even just chatting about games or players in the driveway. Now he has the best seat in the house. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May he rest in peace. ❤️🙏
