Raised in Farmington, Connecticut, Fred attended Farmington High School prior to enlisting in the United States Navy. He honorably served his country for nearly 5 years during the Korean War, and upon his honorable discharge on June 11, 1952, he attained the rank of Teleman Petty Officer 3rd Class.
Prior to his retirement, Fred was employed for many years as a police officer for the Borough of Swoyersville. In his earlier years, he was employed as an automotive mechanic for Luzerne Motors, formerly of Luzerne, and McCarthy Tire, Wilkes-Barre. He also worked part-time at the former Pocono Downs Raceway, now The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, Wilkes-Barre.

Additionally, he was a life-member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville; a life-member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Wyoming Valley Lodge 36, Hanover Township; and a former member of the Kunkle Rod and Gun Club.
Fred greatly enjoyed attending hockey and baseball games, as well as all of his grandchildren’s sporting events over the years. He was also a great fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. More recently, he enjoyed the numerous outings he went on while residing at Wyoming Manor, as well as playing bingo with his fellow residents.
Family was always as the center of Fred’s life and he cherished every moment he shared with his loved ones, most especially his grandchildren – they were his pride and joy! There is peace in knowing that he is now resting in heaven, basking in the glory of his Lord and Savior, and happily reunited with his beloved wife and son, and all his loved ones who were waiting for him there.
In addition to his parents, Frederick Dorman Sr. and Frances Dorman Riek, his step-father, Fred Riek, and his wife, Martha, Fred was preceded in death by his beloved son, Paul M. Dorman, who passed away on February 21, 2003; his brother, William F. Dorman; and his sister-in-law, Matilda “Tillie” Rabada Dorman.
