Fred M. Yamrus Sr., 91, a life-long resident of Forty Fort, passed into eternal life, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday afternoon, March 04, 2017, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Fred was the cornerstone of his large extended family, and he maintained his role of father, close friend, advisor, spiritual leader, and confidant to this large group to his final days. He will be deeply missed and leaves a large space impossible to fill.
His loving wife is Marie (Wilson) Yamrus. Fred and Marie would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 28th.
Born on September 29, 1925, in Kingston, Fred was the son of the late George and Josephine (Hahn) Yamrus.
Fred was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1943, and later went on to further his education as a commercial artist.
A United States Navy Veteran, Fred honorably served his country for three years during World War II. He was decorated with the Navy Air Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his honorable discharge, he attained the rank of Aviation Radioman 3rd Class.
Fred was employed as a mold and package designer for Valley Plastics Inc., Kingston, retiring from there. In his earlier years he was employed in the toy development and art department of the former Deluxe Games Corp., Kingston.
A faithful Catholic, Fred was a member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, where he held membership with its Holy Name Society and Choir.
Fred was a life member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville.
In addition to his parents, George and Josephine Yamrus, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Frank, and John “Mitch” Yamrus; his sisters, Ann Lacina, Frances Shaver, and Mary Walski; and his son-in-law, George Sobeck.
In addition to his wife, Marie, Fred is survived by his six children, Geri Sobeck, Tunkhannock; Mary Ellen “Mimi” (Mark) Domenick, Martinsville, New Jersey; Fred (Patti) Yamrus Jr, Kingston; Michael (Lori) Yamrus, Hilton Head, SC; David (Janet) Yamrus, Kingston; and Mark Yamrus, Forty Fort; his thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 08, 2017, at 11:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
At Fred’s request, the viewing will be private for his immediate family.
