Florence Victoria Hovanec, 92, formerly of Swoyersville, and a former resident of North Penn Manor, Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life on Friday evening, July 24, 2020, at Guardian Elder Care, Nanticoke, where she was recently a guest.
Born on May 23, 1928, in Swoyersville, Florence was the daughter of the late John and Victoria (Zavatski) Hovanec.
Raised in Swoyersville, Florence was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School.
Prior to her retirement, Florence was employed in the local banking industry. After retiring, she volunteered at the Salvation Army in Wyoming.
A faithful Catholic, Florence was a lifelong member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Florence was a caring and thoughtful person who most notably attended to and cared for her father during his final days. She always remembered to honor her relatives on their birthdays, especially her nieces and nephews to whom she would gift her prized possessions.
In addition to her parents, John and Victoria Hovanec, Florence was preceded in death by her brothers, John and George Hovanec; and her sister, Mary Czerpak.
Florence is survived by her brother, Frank Hovanec and his wife, Janet, Swoyersville; as well as her nieces and nephews.
A private family blessing service will be celebrated by the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
