Florence Makos Shaw, 96, a resident of Plymouth, passed into eternal life on Monday morning, January 31, 2022, at Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke, where she was recently a guest.
Her beloved husband was the late Robert C. Shaw, who passed away on July 10, 1999. Together, Robert and Florence shared 25 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on April 28, 1925, in Plymouth, Florence was one of ten children born to the late Michael J. Makos and Anna (Mazur) Makos.
Raised in Plymouth, Florence was a graduate of the former Plymouth High School.
Before the passing of her husband, Florence had dual residence in both Pennsylvania and Florida. Prior to her marriage, she was employed during the spring and summer months as a waitress at the Shawnee Inn in the Pocono’s, and during the fall and winter months as a waitress in Palm Beach, Florida.
A devout Catholic, Florence was a lifelong member of Saint Mary the Nativity Church, Plymouth. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth, where she held membership with the parish’s Friendship Club.
Florence enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as a good polka song and her day trips to Atlantic City. She greatly enjoyed the years that she and Robert lived in Dunnellon, Florida, and she spoke fondly of the happy memories that were made there.
In addition to her parents, Michael and Anna Makos, and her husband, Robert, Florence was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Michael, and Chester Makos; and her sisters, Mary Streeter and Sophie Kmetz.
Florence is survived by her brothers, Walter Makos and Joseph Makos; her sisters, Ann Makos and Helen Dula; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of both Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the attentive and compassionate care they bestowed upon Florence during her time of need.
