After a long and happy life filled with love, Elizabeth R. “Betty” Leptuck, formerly of Owen Street, Swoyersville, entered into the peace of eternal life on Tuesday evening, February 25, 2025, at the age of 101, while in the care of the Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Her beloved husband of 72 years was the late Anthony S. “Tony” Leptuck, who passed away on October 03, 2017.
Born on November 15, 1923, in Swoyersville, Betty was one of eleven children born to the late Andrew Kraynak and Elizabeth Sholtis Kraynak.
Residing in Swoyersville most of her life, Betty was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1941.
Prior to her retirement, Betty was employed as a seamstress for various local garment manufacturers and worked for some time for Sew Fine Draperies and Interiors, Luzerne. With her distinct eye for fashion and her expertise at sewing, before and after retirement, she did sewing work for family and friends, fashioned clothing and draperies for her children and grandchildren, and designed and fashioned four wedding dresses for her family members. Aside from her love of sewing, Betty’s favorite role in life was being a devoted homemaker to her family.
A faithful Catholic, Betty was a lifelong member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, holding membership with its Confraternity of Christian Mothers and its choir. She was also an active member and Past President of the former Swoyersville Senior Citizens and was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, Keystone Chapter of Northeast Pennsylvania.
With Betty’s great affinity for crafting and her husband’s love of woodworking, Betty enjoyed painting the miniature coal cars, doll houses, bird houses, and other wooden crafts made by her husband. She also excelled at crocheting and the art of embroidery.
Family always came first to Betty throughout her life, and she treasured every moment she shared with her loved ones. Kind hearted, gentle, quiet, and always elegant, Betty will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, nonni, sister, aunt, and friend.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Kraynak, and her husband, Tony, Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, Stephen, Andrew, Michael, John, Joseph and George Kraynak; and her sister, Mary Hromek.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Mary Lee Yateshin and her husband, Al, Hanover Township; Joseph Leptuck and his wife, Mary Ann, Pittston; and James Leptuck and his wife, Cindy, Swoyersville; her five grandchildren, Melissa Yateshin and fiancé, Scott Popson; A.J. Yateshin; Tony Leptuck and his wife, Dorothy; Jennifer Leptuck; and Tiffany Meadows and her husband, Nick; her three great-grandchildren, Tony Leptuck Jr., Xander Meadows, and Remi Meadows; her brother, Thomas Kraynak and his wife, Barbara, Harding; her sister, Irene Brezinski, Scranton; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their most sincere gratitude to the nurses and aides at the Riverstreet Manor for the loving care they bestowed upon Betty during her time of need.
