Elizabeth “Betty” Basar, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, June 16, 2015, at Celtic Healthcare Hospice, Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Her beloved husband was the late Michael G. Basar, who passed away on September 20, 1994. Together, Michael and Betty shared 46 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on March 02, 1929, in Wilkes-Barre, Betty was one of four daughters born to the late Ernest and Anna Mae (Larkin) Lentz.
Raised in Hanover Township, Betty was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1947.
Prior to her retirement, Betty was employed as a seamstress for the former Aureus Manufacturing, Exeter. In her earlier years, she was employed by the General Cigar Company, Kingston.
Betty was a faithful member of the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty centered her life on her family. She always gave the best of care to her loved ones, and her beloved pet parakeet, Bert. She had a fiery, yet loving personality, which was truly one of a kind. Although her presence will be greatly missed, her beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Ernest and Anna Mae Lentz, and her husband, Michael, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Kopko and Patricia Jabyac.
Betty is survived by her children, Susan Greenly and her husband, Duane, Mechanicsburg; Mary Lou Gobbler and her husband, Michael, Swoyersville; Michael Basar, Swoyersville; and Betsy Vancosky and her husband, Frank, Plains Township; her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Dominish, Kingston; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
The Family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Betty’s Visiting Angels, Louise, Linda and Flo, for the exceptional care they bestowed upon Betty during her time of need. They wish to also thank Dr. Bruce Saidman, and the entire staff of Medical Oncology Associates, for their excellent care. Lastly, they would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Celtic Healthcare Hospice for providing Betty dignity and comfort in her final days.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 11:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Saturday morning, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass, at the church.
