Eleanor Regina Shekiro, 84, a resident of Luzerne, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, November 29, 2013, at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility of the Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township.
Her beloved husband was the late Michael J. Shekiro, who passed away on December 25, 1999. Michael and Eleanor were united in marriage on May 28, 1949 in Saint Mary the Immaculate Conception Church, Wilkes-Barre and shared 50 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on November 30, 1929, in Wilkes-Barre, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Raymond and Regina (Harrity) McHugh.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Eleanor was a graduate of the former Saint Mary’s High School, Wilkes-Barre.
A homemaker most of her life, Eleanor lovingly tended to the daily needs of her home and family.
Eleanor was a faithful member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish, Luzerne.
In addition to her parents, Raymond and Regina McHugh, and her husband, Michael, Eleanor was preceded in death by her brothers, Cornelius and John McHugh; and her sisters, Raylean Church and Patricia Foster.
Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mary Jean Kotch and husband Andrew III, of Suisun City, California; Michael Shekiro, of Luzerne; and Patricia Shekiro, of Boothwyn; her grandson, Andrew Kotch IV, of Santa Rosa, California; her sister, Joan Chulvick, of Edwardsville; and her nieces and nephews.
Eleanor’s family would like to thank the staff of the Wesley Village for the wonderful care, kindness, and compassion they provided Eleanor for the four years she resided there. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Celtic Hospice for their compassionate care during Eleanor’s final days.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Tuesday, December 03, 2013, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne, with the Reverend Michael J. Zipay, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Township.
