Edward S. (Biely) Bieley, 97, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
His first wife of over 30 years was the late Helen (Karsaba) Bieley, who passed away on October 10, 1979. His second wife of over 20 years is Dorothy (Tesik) Zelasko Bieley.
Born on May 22, 1919, in Swoyersville, Edward was the son of the late John P. and Catherine (Evanick) Biely.
Raised in Swoyersville, Edward was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School.
A gifted trumpeter, Edward worked as a musician all of his life. As a young man he moved to Manhattan, New York, where he gained employment as a traveling musician with the Les Brown Band and the Sammy Kaye Orchestra, most notably playing for the troops during World War II. Ed then became a Bandleader for the former cruise company “The Grace Line”. Eventually, Ed moved to East Stroudsburg where he became the Bandleader at the former Pocmont Resort, Bushkill, retiring from there.
Ed was a longtime member of the Associated Musicians of Greater New York, Local 802.
After retiring, Ed returned to his beloved hometown of Swoyersville where he spent most of his remaining years living in his family homestead.
Ed had the opportunity to forge friendships with many celebrities during his years performing, particularly Doris Day, Dean Martin, Joe DiMaggio, Abbot and Costello, and Regis Philbin.
A faithful Catholic, Ed was a lifelong member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
In addition to his parents, John and Catherine Biely, and his first wife, Helen, Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Paul J. Bieley; his sisters, Teresa Costello, Louise Pacenka, and Olga Blazes; and his son-in-law, Anthony Rizzo.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Edward is survived by his daughter, Darlene Rizzo Noonan, and granddaughters, Doreen Krumfolz, Helena Troche, and Marion Brady, all of Manalapan, New Jersey; his ten great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 10:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
