Edward P. Harkins III, 60, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday, December 08, 2017, at Celtic Healthcare Hospice, Inpatient Unit, at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born on March 14, 1957, in Scranton, Edward was the son of the late Edward P. Harkins Jr. and Catherine (Clarke) Harkins.
Edward was a graduate of the former Bishop O’Reilly High School, Kingston, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology.
Throughout his life Ed had a passion for rugby, playing in various rugby leagues over the years. He also had a great interest in woodworking
Ed was blessed to share a close bond with his step-children and step-grandchildren, and their presence in his life brought him great joy.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his brother, SP4 Brian T. Harkins, U.S. Army.
Surviving are his sister, Monica (William) Salis, Forty Fort; his brothers, William (Donna) Harkins, Rockport, Texas; and Shawn (Elaine) Harkins, Larksville; his nieces and a nephew; his step-children, Katie (George) Wolfe, Justin Brewster Sr., and James Brewster, and their mother, Mary Lee (Thomas) Harkins; his step-grandchildren, Justin Jr., Kaine, and Lukas Brewster; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their thanks for the wonderful care provided by the staff of the 3rd Floor Med/Surg Unit at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, most especially Ed’s special nurses, Sharon, Shannon, Flo, Crystal and Candice. The family wishes to also thank the nurses from Celtic Healthcare Hospice for providing comfort to Ed during his final hours.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Edward’s visitation on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Edward’s cousin, the Reverend Brian J.T. Clarke, will be the celebrant.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Swoyersville.
