Edward F. Biernacki, 87, a resident of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, December 04, 2014, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.His beloved wife was the late Dorothy (Williams) Biernacki, who passed away on July 10, 1970. Together, Edward and Dorothy shared 13 beautiful years of marriage.Born on August 16, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, “Ed” or “Eddie” was the son of the late John and Pauline (Sopinski) Biernacki.Raised in Ashley, Ed was a graduate of the former Ashley High School, Class of 1945.A United States Navy veteran, Ed honorably served his country for four years both during and after World War II. He was decorated with the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 04, 1949, attaining the rank of Radioman 2nd Class.For over 35 years, Ed was an Optician and owner of Ashley Optical Laboratories, and later retired from Biernacki Eye Associates.Ed was a member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Kingston.A man of many enjoyments, Ed especially enjoyed watching sports, going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, and taking trips to Atlantic City and the Mohegan Sun casinos. He also loved spending time with the family dog, Burt.Ed was known for being very handy and was able to fix just about anything.By far, Ed’s greatest role in life was being father to his four daughters, and he was most proud of raising his daughters by himself following the untimely death of his wife. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, “Pop”, brother, uncle and friend.In addition to his parents, John and Pauline Biernacki, and his wife, Dorothy, Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve, Joe and Dr. John Biernacki; and his sister, Dorothy Gabala.Ed is survived by his daughters, Colette Savage, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Cheryl Wilson and her husband, George, Kingston; Maribeth “Betsy” Sanger and her husband, Jeff, Atlanta, Georgia; and Claire Rosenko and her husband, Tom, Nanticoke; his grandchildren, Courtney Shatrowskas and her husband, Jason; Chelsea and Nicholas Wilson; and Kellen and Jake Sanger; his great-granddaughter, Calli Shatrowskas; his sisters, Caroline Casterline and Pauline Brown, both of Connecticut; and his many nieces and nephews.Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Tuesday, December 09, 2014, at 9:00 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 AM in Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 North Maple Avenue, Kingston.Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy immediately following the Funeral Mass, at the church.Family and Friends are invited to call on Monday evening, December 08, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.For additional information or to send the family an online message of condolence, you may visit the funeral home web-site www.wroblewskifuneralhome.com.In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s memory to the S.P.C.A of Luzerne County, 524 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania 18702, or to the American Heart Association, 5455 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
