Edward A. “Edd” Brominski, Sr., 81, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away Tuesday evening, November 24, 2020, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
He and his wife Dolores A. (Konopka) Brominski celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on September 9th.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on October 3, 1939, Edd was one of two sons of the late Louis and Bina (Pallini) Brominski.
Raised in Swoyersville, Edd was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, class of 1957, where he was a member of the school’s baseball and football teams.
Following high school, Edd enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served his country for four years. During that time, he was a member of the Navy prep football team, Bainbridge, Maryland, playing quarterback.
Upon his Naval discharge, Edd enrolled at Penn State University, eventually transferring to Wilkes College (now Wilkes University), where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. During his years at both Penn State and Wilkes, Edd played quarterback on their football teams. Later, he went on to obtain his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Scranton.
Edd began teaching social studies at the former Forty-Fort High School, and later, at Wyoming Valley West High School. While at Forty-Fort area, he served as an assistant football coach and later head football coach at Wyoming Valley West.
Edd was named head coach for the King’s College Club Football Team. He led that team to national recognition, winning the 1970 national championship for club football, and receiving the prestigious Lambert Trophy. Over the years, Edd also coached several semi-pro football teams, including the Wyoming Valley Giants, Wilkes-Barre Bullets and Northeast Stars.
His political career began serving as Mayor of Swoyersville. He later went on to serve as Luzerne County Commissioner, at which time he retired from teaching. Edd also served as Luzerne County’s Director of Assessment, and finally, as a member of the Luzerne County Council.
At various points in his professional career, he was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, serving as manager of its West Pittston branch. Later, he went on to work as a sales representative in the pharmaceutical industry, where he officially retired.
Edd was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
In addition to his parents, Louis and Bina Brominski, Edd was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Brominski.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores; children, Ed Brominski, Jr. and his wife, Julie, Swoyersville; and Lynn Salus and her husband, Randy, Northmoreland Township; grandsons, Randy Salus, Jr. and his companion, Christy Petro, Irvine, California; and Scott Salus, Northmoreland Township; his faithful dog, CeeCee; as well as several nieces and a nephew.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend Edd’s memorial Mass on Monday, November 30, 2020, at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi officiating.
Please be advised that the church can only accommodate a maximum of 80 people for the Mass due to the restrictions imposed by the state. Those attending are required to wear a facial covering and observe social distancing.
Private interment with the Rite of Committal will follow at Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township.
