Dr. Matthew J. Soranno D.M.D., 56, a resident of Forty Fort, passed into eternal life on Saturday morning, September 23, 2017, at Celtic Healthcare Hospice, Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, following a lengthy illness.

He was born and raised in Dunmore and attended Dunmore High School, the University of Scranton and Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia.  He practiced his dentistry in Exeter for 30 years and finished his career in Kingston, working alongside his lifelong friend, Dr. Tony Pitelli.

Known as Matthew, Matt, Mattie, Dr. Matt or Dr. Soranno, he was the son of Mary Ann (Williams) Soranno, of Dunmore, and the late Matthew Soranno. 

In addition to his mother, Mary Ann Soranno, Matt is survived by his wife, Pattie Soranno, Forty Fort;  his step-daughter, Amy McCabe and her husband, Fuller, Jackson, Mississippi; his two step-sons, Eric and Sean Bieski, both of Nanticoke.  He also leaves behind his two great companions, his beloved St. Bernard’s, Molly and Diesel.

A dedicated and loving husband, step-father and son, Matthew had a big heart and a great sense of duty and humility.  He also loved his very loyal patients who appreciated his gentle touch and constant question of, “Are you okay?” during any procedure.  He truly went out of his way to make his patients comfortable with what is sometimes considered an uncomfortable part of life. He also had a truly special and dedicated staff who appreciated him as much as he appreciated them.

Traveling was another big part of his life, including trips made to West Virginia University to see his step-daughter, Amy, perform on the gymnastics team.  The coaches and entire team had a special place in their heart for him.  He felt most happy in Walt Disney World, truly the happiest place on Earth for him. Many of his friends and family experienced a window seat at Ohana’s after a fun filled day at the parks, watching the fireworks over Magic Kingdom. The many memories made at Disney will indeed live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones. Matt also enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas with his best friend and confidant, Dr. Paul Mancia. Dr. Mancia was a true friend to Matt and he was always there for him no matter what!

Matt was an avid golfer and was a member of the Huntsville Golf Club since its opening in 1994.

In September 2009, after one year of dialysis, his wife donated her kidney.  The transplant added another eight years to his life.  Matthew was a big believer in organ donations though unable to be a donor himself in the end. 

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Friday, September 29, 2017, at 9:30 AM, from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor, officiating.

Private Interment will be in Saint Catherine’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Moscow.

Family and Friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
