Dorothy Louise Brek, 92, a resident of Forty Fort, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, March 06, 2021, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Her beloved husband was the late Thomas J. Brek, who passed away on December 12, 1998. Together, Thomas and Dorothy shared 48 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on June 29, 1928, in Hudson, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Bernard F. Figlock Sr. and Sophia C. (Gayewski) Figlock.
Raised in Hudson, Dorothy was a graduate of the former Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1945. Following high school, she went on to further her education at the former Wilkes-Barre Business College.
Working for a short time in her younger years, Dorothy devoted her life to being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker after the birth of her only son, Tim.
A faithful Catholic, Dorothy was a longtime member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church, Swoyersville, where she held membership with the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Dorothy was actively involved with her high school reunion committee for many years and she loved the countless reunions and get-togethers she shared with her fellow classmates throughout the years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Post 395, Kingston.
A consummate homemaker, Dorothy loved cooking for her family, and she was known for her canning. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and in her earlier years, she enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband and son.
In addition to her parents, Bernard and Sophia Figlock, and her husband, Thomas, Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandson, Timothy Jon “TJ” Brek, who passed away on April 30, 2016; and her only brother, Bernard F. Figlock Jr.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Thomas “Tim” Brek and his wife, Carole, Kingston; her grandchildren, Amy Brek Leonard and her husband, William “Red”; Thomas Grippo and his wife, Lynn; Toni McCarty and her husband, Ron; and Edward Grippo and his wife, Adrian; her granddaughter-in-law, Kelly Lawson Brek; her nine great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Barbara Figlock, Dover, Pennsylvania; as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and Friends are invited to attend Dorothy’s closed-casket visitation which will be held on Thursday morning, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, at the funeral home.
In keeping with Federal, State, and Diocesan guidelines, those attending the visitation and/or funeral service are required to wear a facial covering and observe social distancing.
