Dorothy Dzurisin, 94, formerly of Lackawanna Avenue, Swoyersville, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday evening, December 10, 2022, at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility of the Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township, where she was a guest for the past 2 ½ years.
Her beloved husband was the late Paul Peter Dzurisin, who served as Cantor of Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville and Saint Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston. Paul and Dorothy were “joined at the hip” from the moment they first laid eyes on one another, and upon Paul’s passing on December 04, 2020, they were blessed to share over 62 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on August 07, 1928, in Larksville, Dorothy was one of two daughters born to the late George Boback and Helen A. Korshalla Boback.
Raised in Larksville, Dorothy was a graduate of the former Larksville High School, Class of 1946.
A devoted homemaker most of her life, Dorothy worked for some years as a clerk for the former Nemetz’s Bakery on Owen Street, Swoyersville; the former International Bakery, Plymouth; and the former Pastry and Cookie Shop, Public Square, Wilkes-Barre.
Dorothy was a devout member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville.
A kind-hearted, gentle woman with a great sense of humor, Dorothy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as cooking and baking for her loved ones (she was famous for her apple pie!); going out to dinner with her husband; enjoying her sweets; watching game shows; and playing cards with her family, most especially 500 Rummy and Deuces Wild. She was also a skilled seamstress who enjoyed fashioning clothing and costumes, as well as doing alterations and repairs.
Above all, family was the center of Dorothy’s life and she cherished every moment she shared with her loved ones. Whether it was a holiday, birthday, or any average day, Dorothy loved having her family gathered together – they were her greatest joy! Although her presence will be greatly missed, there is much joy in knowing she is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband and all her loved ones who were patiently waiting for her there.
In addition to her parents, George and Helen Boback, and her husband, Paul, Dorothy was preceded in death by her infant son, Paul Dzurisin Jr.; and her sister, Rita Dzurek.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy Sagliocco and her husband, Joseph, Pittston; and Rita Yanchick and her husband, Thomas, Swoyersville; her five grandchildren, Maria Blasko and her husband, Marc; Chrissy Yanchick and her boyfriend, Jason Bennett; T.J. Yanchick and his wife, Lori; Lori Yanchick and her partner, Caitlin Carlin; and Lisa Yanchick; her six great-grandchildren, Luke Blasco; Jax and Alivia Yanchick; Emma and Cole Galli; and Blake Barrett; as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy’s family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dorothy’s friend and fellow guest at Wesley Village, Ruth Haynes, for her friendship and the nightly visits she made to watch game shows with Dorothy. To the nurse’s aides, nurses, and ancillary staff at Wesley Village, words could never express the wonderful care you bestowed upon Dorothy during her time of need. A special thank you to Dorothy’s favorite nurse, Shirley, who formed a close bond with Dorothy and cared for her with such a special devotion.
