Mr. Sobieski was my Biology I teacher in 9th grade at Rahway High, 1969. He was an excellent teacher, I fell in love with biology, and went on to get my Ph.D. in the field in 1983. I had a wonderful career in ecology and conservation biology, including writing some college textbooks in the field. A bad teacher might have turned me off to biology, but I was so fortunate to be his student, as he set me on my professional path in life. Thank you so much, Mr. Sobieski, for this gift of love for the life sciences. I wish I could have said that sooner. You did well by me, sir. Dr. Gary Meffe Brandon, Vermont

As Don's vice president of the Van Wyck Brooks Historic District at one time, he gave me the best volunteer office I ever held in the number of laughs, ironic observations, puns, his creative thinking, ability to engage people, and general good humor, exuded without restraint. With his hearty laugh, interest in almost everything, and contagious camaraderie nearly every encounter was a party. Don lit up the room. My husband and I send our sincerest condolences to Lois, and to his Florida pals. May he rest in peace. Gerry and Arne Aakre
