Donald J. Sobieski, 79, a resident of Pompano Beach, Florida, and formerly of Plainfield, New Jersey and Nanticoke, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Imperial Point Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Born on March 11, 1943, in Nanticoke, Donald was one of two children born to the late Joseph C. Sobieski and Emily Janiczek Sobieski.
Raised in Nanticoke, Don was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, Class of 1960, and earned degrees from Wilkes College, now Wilkes University, and Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey.
Prior to his retirement, Don enjoyed a successful career with the Rahway School District, Rahway, New Jersey, initially serving as a biology and science teacher, and later as an administrator for the school district.
During the years he resided in Plainfield, New Jersey, Don was active in his neighborhood association, The Van Wyck Brooks Historic District.
An avid traveler, Don was blessed to visit many countries, enjoying the historic sights and ethnic foods. He also traveled extensively throughout the United States in his motorhome.
A “snowbird” for many years, Don decided to permanently move to a warmer climate, settling first in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and later in Pompano Beach, Florida. While residing there, he enjoyed dining in fine restaurants, as well as attending plays and musical events.
Don will forever be remembered as a loving, loyal, and generous brother and friend, and he will be greatly missed! His last courageous act of generosity was being an organ donor in an effort to help those in dire need.
Don leaves behind his sister, Lois Sobieski, Hanover Township; his precious puppy, Patches; his best friends, Jim, Herb, Barbara, and Sonny, as well as his “pals”, the staff members at the Court at Palm Aire.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Don’s viewing which will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort. A Blessing Service will commence at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, officiating.
Entombment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township.
