Dolores J. Berda, 91, formerly of Maltby Avenue, Swoyersville, and Shoemaker Street, Forty Fort, passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, October 18, 2022, at Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazle Township, where she was recently a guest.
Born on March 01, 1931, in Wilkes-Barre, Dolores was one of four daughters born to the late Andrew Berda and Anna Malast Berda.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Dolores was a graduate of the former Saint Ann’s Academy, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1948, and was an active member of Saint Ann’s Academy Alumnae Association for many years.
Dolores retired from the local garment industry after 18 years, holding membership with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Prior to that, she was employed for 24 years in the meat department of the A&P Market, formerly located on Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, and also by the former Pomeroy’s Department Store, Wilkes-Barre.
A devout Catholic, Dolores was a member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, now Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, holding membership with its Confraternity of Christian Mothers and its former Quilters Guild. She also volunteered at countless church functions, most notably its annual bazaar and rummage sale.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Anna Berda, Dolores was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Berda.
Dolores is survived by her sisters, Rosalie Gulla and her husband, Thomas, South Carolina; and Andrea Potichko, Shavertown; and her cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The entire staff at Mountain City Nursing Center is thanked and commended for the exceptional, loving care they provided Dolores during her stay there. They went above and beyond the call of duty, providing superior and compassionate care in some of the most difficult times and circumstances!
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dolores’ viewing which will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville. At 10:30 AM, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, to be celebrated by her beloved Pastor, the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas.
Funeral Arrangements for Dolores have been entrusted to the care of her friends at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
