On Monday, October 20, 2025, Della Christine (Jones) Davies, wife of the late David Davies, mother of six children, and “Dolly Gramma” to 19 grandchildren, passed away quietly, surrounded by family at her home in Wilkes-Barre.
Della was born on April 27, 1952, in Wilkes-Barre to the late Elmer “Duke” Jones and Florence Urban Jones. She was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School with the Class of 1971. And while Della held several positions throughout the years, she dedicated her life to building and nurturing a loving, caring home for her husband, her six children and eventually her 19 grandchildren.
Della married her beloved David on August 30, 1974, and, soon after, the couple settled into a modest home in Wilkes-Barre’s Rolling Mill Hill neighborhood. Throughout the ensuing decades, Della remained the heart and soul of the family home as she and David guided their six children, all proud G.A.R. Grenadiers, into adulthood.
Later, Della and David found themselves surrounded by an ever-expanding brood of darling grandchildren, to which, Della had lovingly appointed herself doting grandma, patient teacher, provider of “forbidden” snacks, boo-boo kisser, creator of odd little games and diplomatic divider of mixing bowl licks.
As she matured into her retirement years, Della sought comfort and joy from her enduring faith in God, her steadfast love for America and a lifetime of cherished memories with her big, happy family and, of course, the memory of one storied evening hanging out with Elvis in Las Vegas.
In addition to her husband, David, and her parents, Elmer “Duke” and Florence Jones, Della was preceded in death by her sister, Judith; and her brothers, Bill, Jack, Patrick, Thomas and Joseph.
She is survived by her six children, Jennifer Sperrazza and her husband, Alex; David and his wife, Kristi; Rhian and his wife, Melissa; Jonathan and his wife, Shannon; Sean and his wife, Shae; Tara Moraski and her husband, Jacob; and her 19 grandchildren, Madyson, Ireland, Tristan, Isabelle, Morghan, Brooke, Aidan, Koleton, Aubrey, Mia, Noah, Samuel, Jessi, Lucy, River, Gwen, Charlotte, Macsen and Denver.
Della is also survived by her sister, Ann; her brothers, Arthur, James, Gerald and Tony; as well as many loving brothers and sisters-in-law and several generations of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Della’s viewings which will be held on Sunday, October 26, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM and on Monday, October 27, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
