David Wayne Kachurak, 72, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Monday morning, September 07, 2026, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Beverly Thomas, Swoyersville.

His beloved wife of 49 years was the late Nancy J. Atherholt Kachurak who passed away on April 25, 2025.

Born on May 08, 1954, in Plymouth, David was one of eleven children born to the late Joseph Kachurak, a coal miner and Navy veteran, and Elizabeth Young Kachurak, a homemaker.

Raised in Plymouth, David attended Wyoming Valley West schools.

David knew the meaning of hard work from a young age. He began working in the 7^th grade with a neighbor who had a trash removal and coal delivery business. He later went on to have a 35-year career at the former Valley Crest Nursing Home and at the time of its closure, he held the position of central supply supervisor. While raising his children, he worked part-time as a gas station attendant and shelf stocker; and also worked for some time at the former Nesbitt Hospital and the former Leader Nursing Home, both in Kingston.

A man of deep faith, David was a devout, longtime member of Cherry Street Bible Church, Plymouth, where he served for many years as an usher.

Meeting his wife, Nancy, while they were both working at the former Valley Crest Nursing Home in Wilkes-Barre, the pair were fond of each other from the start. David, being a wonderful man his entire life, was never hindered by Nancy being a single mother raising three young children. He not only committed himself to Nancy, he also committed himself to her children and they became his own. David and Nancy’s love was one for the books: they were faithful partners who protected and supported each other through both the good times and bad times.

Loving, loyal, and hardworking, David’s main focus in life was caring for and providing for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. David always ensured his wife and children would never want for anything, sometimes working three jobs to make certain his family’s needs were met.

Known for his love of music, Southern Gospel was David’s favorite genre, and his favorite artists were Elvis, the Beatles and the Gaither Vocal Band. He was also known for being an avid motorcycle enthusiast; an excellent basketball player; a lover of pizza and apple pie; a skilled painter and masonry worker; and a huge dog lover, especially when it came to late pup, Skeeters.

David will be remembered as a great husband, an amazing father, and the absolutely ultimate grandfather and great-grandfather. His family brought him immense joy, and he was happiest being surrounded by his loved ones up until his last breath. The deep loss of David is certainly Heaven’s gain, but his family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with all his family and friends who have gone before him, especially his beloved Nancy and his daughter-in-law, Donnalea.

In addition to his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth, and his wife, Nancy, David was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Kachurak, Andy Kachurak and Robert Kachurak; his sisters, Marie Eisenhauer, Carol Cieczko, Patsy Hillard and Donna Meyers; and his daughter-in-law, Donnalea Thomas.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Robert J. Thomas and his wife, Beverly, Swoyersville; Dr. David H. Thomas, Vineland, New Jersey; and Lynda E. Brezna and her longtime companion, Thomas Rogan, Luzerne; his four grandchildren, Jessica L. DeAngelo and her husband, Thomas, Trucksville; Nicole L. McGovern and her husband, AJ, Lawton, Oklahoma; Amanda A. Anderson and her husband, Keith, Middleton, Florida; and Amber Lyn Chmiola and her husband, Dan, Hanover Township; his ten great-grandchildren; his sisters, Fay Lubinski, Forty Fort; JoAnne Yedinak and her husband, Joseph, Swoyersville; and Pamela Yechimowicz and her husband, Wayne, Larksville; as well as generations of nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend David’s services which will begin on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with a memorial visitation from 1:30 PM until the time of his Memorial Service at 2:00 PM in Cherry Street Bible Church, 55 Cherry Street, Plymouth. The Reverend James Sienkiewicz, his Pastor, will officiate the service.

A private family interment will follow in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Wyoming.
