Daniel G. Brek Sr., 93, a resident of Swoyersville, passed peacefully into eternal life, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday afternoon, August 03, 2025, in the comfort of his home.
His beloved wife of 58 years was the late Alice Sincavage Brek who passed away on February 09, 2014.
Born on July 19, 1932, in Luzerne, Daniel was the son of the late John J. Brek Sr. and Elizabeth Mesaros Brek.
A United States Army veteran, Dan honorably served his country for two years as a private during the Korean War era.
Prior to his retirement, Dan was employed as a machine operator for the Bridon-American Corporation, Exeter. Best known for being a local appliance repairman, his expertise at his trade led him to be called upon by countless individuals and businesses well into his 80’s.
Dan was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville, and the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville.
Having a lifelong passion for bowling, Dan’s interest in the sport began when he was a “pin boy” at the bowling alley of the former Saint John Nepomucene Church, Luzerne – going on to bowl there twice a week until the church’s closure, he also bowled in leagues at Chacko’s Bowling Center and the former Stanton Lanes, Wilkes-Barre. Beside his passion for bowling, he found joy in fishing for largemouth bass; hunting; rooting for his favorite teams, the New York Giants and New York Yankees; and the countless Thursday rides to Tunkhannock he took with his wife.
A loving husband and father, Dan devoted his life to caring for his family. Although his presence will be deeply missed, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love and kindness that will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.
Dan’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Loren Mangino for his wonderful care for Dan over the years, as well as to the nurses from Compassus Hospice, especially Joe and Jennifer, for all they did to ensure his final days were full of peace and comfort.
In addition to his parents, John and Elizabeth, and his wife, Alice, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, John J. ‘Jackie’ Brek Jr.; his sisters, Elizabeth Gassew Framo and Maureen Mulhern; and his half-sister, Karen Brek.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Alice Marie Kilduff; his son, Daniel G. Brek Jr.; his son-in-law, Edward Kilduff; his brother-in-law, William ‘Bart’ Sincavage; his beloved dog, Benji; as well as his many nieces and nephews.
