After a long and wonderful life, Daniel Abraham Norman, formerly of Hanover Township and most recently a resident of Allied Services Meade Street Residence, Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday morning, June 09, 2025, at the well-attained age of 101, while in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
His beloved wife was the late Marion George Norman who fell asleep in the Lord on November 17, 2020. United in marriage on June 25, 1961, in Saint Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes Barre, the same church his parents were married years prior, Dan was a loving and devoted husband to his wife throughout their 59 years of marriage.
Born on January 27, 1924, in Geneva, New York, Daniel was one of four sons born to the late Michael Abraham and Hazel George Abraham.
Raised in Geneva, New York, Dan was a graduate of Geneva High School.
A United States Army Veteran, Dan honorably served his country for three years during World War II. Most notably, he fought in and miraculously survived the Battle of the Bulge, as well as attaining the rank of First Sergeant in England where he helped in managing a German Prison Camp. Decorated with the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, Dan was honorably discharged from active duty on April 25, 1946.
Following the war, he enrolled at Wilkes College, now Wilkes University, later enrolling at George Washington University, Washington D.C., where he acquired his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Dan gained employment with the Internal Revenue Service working in its Philadelphia office for 28 years – there, he held the roles of Revenue Agent, Supervisory Internal Auditor as well as a Regional Appellate Officer. The IRS selected Dan and one other person to study Finance and Accounting for a master’s degree at the University of Michigan as well as Law School at Temple University which enabled him to assist in the Appellate Division of the Internal Revenue Service. After his retirement, Dan continued working as both a Registered Representative of a brokerage and a Tax Accountant/Consultant – his expertise in the Stock Market was admired and respected by all.
A man of deep faith, Dan was a devout member of Saint Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes Barre.
Resembling Gene Kelly in his younger years, Danny had a contagious laugh; never had a bad word to say about anyone; was philanthropic in his support of his beloved church and countless charities; and, due to his belief in exercise, taking vitamins and eating healthy, was always in great shape. Dan also had a lifelong interest in horse racing and was well-known by many of the staff at Mohegan Sun Pocono where he enjoyed playing roulette. His life was truly a blessing, and his presence will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Michael and Hazel Abraham, and his wife, Marion, Dan was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Abraham, Anthony Abraham, and Floyd Abraham Norman; and his nephew, William Abraham.
Left to cherish his memory are his nieces, Linda, Gail, Joanne, and Hazel; his nephew, Lee; his sister-in-law, Betty George Polanowski; along with many great-nieces and great-nephews, and two great-great-nieces and a great-great nephew.
The family wishes to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to Dan’s beloved caregivers, Tina Michaels, Barbara Billings, Walta Dushok and Dr. Robert Ottaviani – their loving care for Dan led them to become a part of his extended family. The family wishes to also bestow their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Allied Services Meade Street Residence for their wonderful care.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Daniel’s services which will begin with viewing on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM, in Saint Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, 905 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Funeral Service will commence at 12:15 PM with the Very Reverend George Alberts, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Cemetery, Hanover Township, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
Daniel’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
