Claire Gulla, 77, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away on Monday evening, May 25, 2015, at her residence.
Her husband is Clement “Clem” Gulla. Clem and Claire would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on June 15th.
Born on August 14, 1937, in Swoyersville, Claire was the daughter of the late Stephen Lawrence Sr. and Anna (Matthews) Lawrence.
Claire was raised on the “Backroad” of Swoyersville. While her husband was serving in the U.S. Air Force, the family resided in Cheyenne, Wyoming; Hawaii; Virginia; and Washington DC. Following Clem’s retirement in 1979, they returned to their hometown of Swoyersville, residing there ever since.
A homemaker most of her life, Claire worked for some time at the former United Pants Factory, Swoyersville.
Claire was a member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville. Following the closing of her church, she became a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to her parents, Stephen and Anna Lawrence, Claire was preceded in death by her brothers, Stephen Lawrence Jr., Andrew Lawrence, and Leonard Lawrence; her sisters, Helen Novis, Rose Ann Waslick, Dorothy Jadosh, and Marie Gordon.
In addition to her husband, Clem, Claire is survived by her daughter, Lisa Malarkey and her husband, Robert, Hanover Township; her granddaughters, Lyndsey and Leah Malarkey; her brother, Joseph Lawrence, Swoyersville; her sister, Margaret Basinger, Michigan; her many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Leonard Kuchemba and Dr. Barry Bernstein, for their excellent care. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Judy and Jenn, for their compassionate care.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with the Reverend John S. Terry, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
There will be no calling hours.
