Chester J. Makos Sr., 87, a resident of South Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, February 08, 2018, at his home.

His loving wife is Mary A. (Vincent) Makos. Chet and Mary would have celebrated their 63 wedding anniversary on May 7^th.

Born on January 10, 1931, in Plymouth, Chester was one of ten children born to the late Michael J. and Anna (Mazur) Makos.

Raised in Plymouth, Chet attended the former Plymouth High School. During the 10^th grade he had to leave high school to help support his family due to the death of his father. After some time, he proudly went on to attain his General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).

A United States Army Veteran, Chet honorably served his country for two years during the Korean War. He was decorated with the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Service Defense Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty, he attained the rank of Sergeant.

Following his active duty service, Chet reenlisted with the Army Reserves, serving with the 109^th Field Artillery Regiment, Kingston. He retired from military service on January 10, 1991, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Prior to his retirement, Chet was employed for many years as a carpenter for the former Wood-Tip Construction, Kingston.

Chet was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary’s Nativity Church, Plymouth, and was presently a member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth. He also held membership with the American Legion, Post 655, Larksville.

A talented, self-taught accordionist, Chet loved to brighten up family gatherings with his accordion music.

Chet had many enjoyments in life, especially hunting and fishing at his family’s cabin in Potter County, and cheering on his favorite football teams, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles.   

An amazing family man, Chet was truly devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He epitomized the role of husband, father, and pop, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Michael and Anna Makos, Chet was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and Michael Makos; and his sisters, Mary Streeter and Sophie Kmetz.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Chet is survived by his three children, Diane Cebrick and her husband, Barry, Larksville; Chester J. Makos Jr., Wilkes-Barre; and Steven Makos and his wife, Elaine, Phoenix, Arizona; his five grandchildren, Christopher Cebrick and his wife, Jennifer; Cassandra Cebrick; Craig Cebrick and his wife, Janel; Steven Makos and his fiancée, Brianna; and Jillian Lange and her husband, Dakota; his six great-grandchildren, Mason, Anthony, Matthew, Aiden, Addison, and Gianna; his brothers, Walter and Joseph Makos; his sisters, Florence Shaw, Ann Makos, and Helen Dula; as well as his many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Chet’s Blessing Service which will be celebrated on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 7:30 PM, at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.

Family and Friends are invited to Chet’s viewing on Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, at the funeral home.

Interment will be held privately on Tuesday morning in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, where full Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
