Chester J. Kuzma, 69, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, October 27, 2016, at his home.
His loving wife is Alyce R. (Roote) Kuzma. Together, Chester and Alyce celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on October 7th.
Born on December 07, 1946, in Kingston, Chester was the son of the late Edward and Lillian (Coniglio) Kuzma.
Raised in Swoyersville, Chester was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1964.
A United States Air Force veteran, Chester honorably serviced his country for nearly four years during the Vietnam War. During his time of service, he was decorated with the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the National Service Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon his honorable discharge, Chester had attained the rank of Sergeant.
Following his military service, Chester went on to further his education at Penn State Lehman Campus, where he received his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Prior to his retirement, Chester was employed by the Laborer’s Local Union No. 158, Wilkes-Barre, as a concrete finisher. Prior to that, he was employed as a draftsman for Bethlehem Steel and Ingersoll Rand.
A devout and prayerful Catholic, Chester was a longtime member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville. Throughout his years at both Holy Trinity Church and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Chester was actively involved with the parish’s annual bazaar.
Chester was a member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville, and the Miller Mountain Hunting Association.
An avid outdoorsman, Chester greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Some years ago he took a course in tying flies and it became a trade he truly excelled at.
Chester was also an enthusiast of trains, especially steam locomotives. He shared his love of trains with his children and grandchildren, and gifted each of his children with their very own train set. He also enjoyed searching for Indian Arrowheads and amassed a vast collection of them over the years.
Above all, his greatest love in life was for his beloved wife, devoted children and adoring grandchildren. He truly cherished every moment he had with his loved ones. He will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
In addition to his parents, Edward and Lillian Kuzma, Chester was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Kuzma, and his sister, Ann Grozalis.
In addition to his wife, Alyce, Chester is survived by his three children, Tara Brown and her husband, Shawn, Swoyersville; Adam Kuzma and his wife, Tiffany, Swoyersville; and Nicholas Kuzma and his wife, Kim, Dallas; his six grandchildren, Payton Brown; Christopher, Aaron, and Alysa Kuzma; Megan and Eric Kuzma; his twin brother, Charles Kuzma and his wife, Diane, Centermoreland; his sister, Rosalie O’Donnell and her husband, Robert, Hanover Township; as well as his Brothers-in-Law, Sisters-in-Law, nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, October 31, 2016, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force and the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston.
