Charles J. “Joe” Jarski, 87, a resident of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 25, 2013, at the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter.
His beloved wife was the late Helen M. (Golias) Jarski, who passed away on November 04, 1982. Together, Helen and Charles shared 23 years of marriage.
Born on February 07, 1926, in Swoyersville, Charles was the son of the late John Jarski and the late Nellie (Katchko) Jarski Schultz.
A United States Navy Veteran, Charles honorably served his country during World War II. During his time of service, Charles was decorated with the Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the American Theatre Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from active duty on March 28, 1946.
Prior to his retirement, Charles was employed as an upholsterer for various furniture companies throughout the Wyoming Valley.
Charles was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville, where he served as Past Commander. Additionally, he was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 1601, Swoyersville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 283, Kingston.
A man of faith, Charles was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish, Swoyersville.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred and John Jarski; his sisters, Romayne Jarski, Stella Adams and Mary Ann Jarski.
Charles is survived by his son, Joseph Jarski, Sr. and his wife Kathy, of Berwick; his daughter, Donna Ontko and her husband, Mark, of Swoyersville; his grandchildren, Matthew Ontko, Jessica Ontko, Joseph Jarski, Jr. and Matthew John Jarski; his sisters, Jeanette Yale, of Swoyersville and Alice Jenkins, of Forty Fort; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, October 28, 2013, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
