Cazmera Caroline Baran, 97, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at The Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas, after a brief illness. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving children. Prior to her hospital admission at the end of May, Cazmera lived independently at home, doing her own laundry, light cleaning and inspecting everything going on around her.
Cazmera, also called Cas, Caz and Cassie, was born in Barnesboro to the late Peter Nita and Nora Witalis Nita, the 6th of 11 children. Her family moved to Edwardsville when she was a baby and she lived in Edwardsville until marriage. She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School, Class of 1946.
During high school, Cazmera worked at the Rozy-Kozy Lunch in Edwardsville. She later worked in various garment factories in the Wyoming Valley as a presser, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
Cazmera and her husband, Frank, were married in 1952 and settled in Kingston, raising 5 strong and independent children. The work ethics and strong morals that Cazmera and Frank lived every day were instilled in their children. Cazmera and Frank celebrated 53 years of marriage, before Frank’s sudden death in 2005.
Cazmera was an extraordinary woman. She was blessed with good health until two months ago. She was a strong and gentle woman – with opinions on everything! She took great pride in her home and family, and loved frying up potato pancakes, making dinners and baking cakes for her family. Into her early 90s, she continued to drive, enjoyed doing yardwork and sitting on her front porch, watching the activity on her street. Holidays were always a joyous, hectic occasion and she loved having her family around her.
Cazmera was a member of Saint Hedwig’s Church, Kingston, until it’s closing in 2007. She then joined and faithfully attended Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston.
In addition to her parents, Peter and Nora, and her husband, Frank, Cazmera was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Slavinski, Stella Wrobleski, Peter Nita, Joseph Nita, Alec Nita, Agnes Nita, Leo Nita, Martha Magich, and Andrew Nita.
Cazmera is survived and mourned by her children, Frank Baran, Jr., Bethlehem; Rick Baran (Fran), Clarence Center, NY; Linda Brown (Leo), Sarasota, FL; Elaine Casem (Chuck), Mountaintop; and Kathy MacGowan (Scott), Larksville. Her long and happy life will also be celebrated by her grandchildren, Tim Baran (Andrea); Dan Baran (Becky Vogt); Jarrett Brown; Erica Bond (Kris); Amanda Vancosky (Tim); and Ashley Casem (fiancé Justin Liddy); as well as her great-grandchildren, Lydia and Samuel Baran. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Mollitt, of Wyoming, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cazmera’s family would like to thank Homebound Health Services, especially her assigned team of Jen, Eric and Tracy. Their professional and compassionate care while our Mom was at home was exceptional and very much appreciated. Special thanks also to Kat and Sarah and the team from Hospice of the Sacred Heart for making Mom’s final days comfortable.
