Carol Savakinus, 73, a resident of Shavertown, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, December 15, 2022, in the comfort of her home.
Her beloved husband was the late Ludwig Savakinus who passed away on January 15, 2008. Ludwig and Carol were blessed to share 39 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on August 22, 1949, in Kingston, Carol was the first of two children born to the late Anthony A. Kuchemba Sr. and Helen Jaken Kuchemba.
Raised in the Carverton section of Kingston Township, Carol was a graduate of Dallas Senior High School, Class of 1967. Following high school, she went on to further her education at Luzerne County Community College’s former location in Wilkes-Barre where, in 1969, she acquired her Associates Degree in Commercial Art.
A dedicated homemaker most of her life, Carol also worked alongside her husband at their family business, the former Savakinus Brothers, Luzerne.
Carol had many enjoyments in life especially her weekly luncheons with her lady friends; doing the daily crossword puzzles (in ink!); making homemade kielbasa and pierogies for the holiday’s; crafting; and in her earlier years, sewing and fashioning dresses for her daughter.
Above all, Carol greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, most especially her grandsons – they were truly the light of her life and she was very proud of all their various achievements in life. Throughout her 39 years with her beloved Ludwig, she was blessed to travel to many destinations with him, and, in more recent years, she looked forward to vacationing with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. The love and devotion she had for her family will be her greatest legacy, and although her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
Carol is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Caroline Sauers and her husband, Frank (who wasn’t just a son-in-law, but a son to her), Rockaway, New Jersey; her three beloved grandchildren, John Sauers and his fiancée, Patricia Feng; Thomas Sauers; and David Sauers; her brother, Anthony Kuchemba Jr. and his wife, Joanne, Lake Ariel; her cousins who were like siblings; her nieces and nephews, friends, and her adored cat, Lucy.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 9:45 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:15 AM in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne.
Entombment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township.
Family and Friends are invited to Carol’s viewing which will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.
