Carol A. Brady, 89, a longtime resident of Laurel Lakes in Mountaintop, passed quietly and peacefully into eternal life on Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2025, while in the care of the outstanding nurses at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
She is happily reunited with her beloved husband of 24 years, the late James F. Brady, who passed away on October 25, 1984.
Born on October 02, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, Carol was one of four children born to the late Anthony Gilbert and Mary Sylvanus Gilbert.
Raised in the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, Carol was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Class of 1953.
Prior to her retirement, Carol was employed for many years as the office manager for Saint Jude’s Grade School, Mountaintop, where she was well known and admired by the faculty, parents and students – she truly cherished her years there! In her earlier years, she was employed by Matus Enterprises, Wilkes-Barre, and, with her lifelong passion for cooking and baking, she also operated a catering business for many years with her dear friend, the late Alison Kovalchik.
Carol was a devout member of Saint Jude’s Church, Mountaintop, and was actively involved in countless activities both at the church and school over the years.
Meticulous in every way, Carol was a flawless entertainer with an instinctive knowledge of how to tailor every event to perfection. From expertly prepared entrees and desserts to the coordinated décor, she made every holiday and special occasion beautiful and unique. Renowned for her annual Mardi Gras celebration and many culinary delights – she was famous for her scones, shortbreads and brisket, and she loved sharing these with her family and friends.
Carol’s love and admiration for her family will be her lasting legacy. Although each of her family members held a very special place in her heart, her children, Chrissy and Jimmy, were her pride and joy; and her granddaughter, Katie, was her greatest blessing as she was born just days after the passing of her husband – she was, without a doubt, the best “Mamoo” a granddaughter could ask for.
In addition to her parents, Anthony and Mary Gilbert, and her husband, James, Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Godfrey; and her brothers, Anthony “Buddy” Gilbert and Robert Gilbert.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Christina Kemmerer and her husband, Harry, Mountaintop; and James P. Brady and his fiancée, Anita Avotins, White Haven; her granddaughter, Katie Kemmerer and her fiancé, Daniel Swortz, Mountaintop; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a closed casket visitation which will be held on Tuesday, July 01, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the narthex of Saint Jude’s Church, 420 South Mountain Boulevard, Mountaintop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Father William A. Asinari, Assistant Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Lithuanian Catholic Cemetery, Bear Creek.
In keeping with Carol’s wishes, the viewing will be private for her immediate family.
