Betty R. Nafus, 72, a resident of Edwardsville, passed into eternal life on Sunday evening, January 01, 2017, at Celtic Healthcare Hospice, Inpatient Unit, at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, following a brief illness.
Her loving husband is John H. Nafus. John and Betty would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on January 9th.
Born on July 31, 1944, in Independence, Kansas, Betty was the daughter of the late Eli Roberts and Shirley (Lorah) Roberts Fisher.
Raised in Kingston, Betty was a graduate of the former Kingston High School, Class of 1962.
Prior to her retirement, Betty was employed for many years in the cafeteria at Wyoming Valley West Middle School, Kingston.
Betty enjoyed many things in life, most especially snow-birding with her husband in Port Charlotte, Florida, where she loved watching the Florida sunsets, and spending her Tuesday evenings listening to music at Gilchrist’s Park. When she was home in Pennsylvania, she enjoyed socializing with her girlfriends from the Red Hat Society.
Infamous among her family as a “world-class” backseat driver, Betty also had the gift of making fast friends, and she was known to strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
Family was the most important part of Betty’s life, and she never missed an opportunity to spend quality time with her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and extended family. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life! From attending a sporting events to just simply being there to listen, she was a constant support to her grandchildren. Her kind and loving presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Celtic Healthcare Hospice for the compassionate care they bestowed upon Betty during final days. The family also wishes to thank the 5th Floor doctors and nurses from Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for the outstanding care they provided Betty while in their care.
In addition to her parents, Eli Roberts and Shirley Roberts Fisher, Betty was preceded in death by her step-father, Hugh Fisher; and her step-mother, Alice Roberts.
In addition to her husband, John, Betty is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Forsyth and her husband, Allan, Port Charlotte, Florida; and Laurie Slusser and her husband, Chris, Hanover Township; her three grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Gram with the Kisses”, Cameron Smith and his fiancée, Alyssa; Christopher Slusser and Kasidy Slusser; her sister, Nancy Richards and her husband, Thomas, Palm Coast, Florida; as well as a niece, a nephew and her numerous, loving friends.
At Betty’s request, a private funeral service will be celebrated. The Reverend Joseph Rafferty, Chaplain for Celtic Healthcare Hospice, will be the celebrant.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
