Bernard J. Kadish, 80, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Sunday morning, September 25, 2022, at his home.
Born on August 29, 1942, in Kingston, Bernard was one of four children born to the late Adolph A. Kadish Jr. and Bertha M. Smulkstis Kadish.
Bernard spent his early years in Kingston. In 1949, his family relocated to Swoyersville and he resided there ever since. He was a graduate of the former West Side Central Catholic High School, Class of 1960.
A United States Army veteran, Bernard honorably served his country for two years at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge on March 17, 1966, he attained the rank of Specialist 4th Grade.
For over 50 years, Bernard was the owner of Bernard J. Kadish Photography, a professional photography business he operated out of his home in Swoyersville.
Bernard was a devout Catholic, and a longtime member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Following the consolidation of his church, he became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
An avid outdoorsman, Bernard enjoyed fishing and crabbing with his friends; boating on Harveys Lake; taking his nephews on camping trips when they were younger; hiking; mushroom picking; and going on long rides, many times stopping along the way to photograph the beautiful scenery of Pennsylvania. Also, in his earlier years, he enjoyed operating his Ham radio.
Bernard will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Although his presence will be deeply missed, there is much joy in knowing he is basking in the glory of his Lord and Savior, happily reunited in heaven with his beloved parents, sister, and all his loved ones who were waiting for him there.
In addition to his parents, Adolph and Bertha Kadish, Bernard was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret A. Kadish, who passed away on December 10, 2016; and his sister-in-law, Denise Kadish, who passed away on January 06, 2021.
Bernard is survived by his sister, Dorothy Goeckel and her husband, John, Larksville; his brother, David Kadish, Indiana, Pennsylvania; his nephews, Richard Goeckel, Larksville; and Michael Goeckel and his wife, Cathy, and their sons, Zackery, Nickolas, and Lukas, all of Marysville, Pennsylvania; his niece, Sheon Kadish, Indiana, Pennsylvania; as well as his many cousins, and friends.
Bernard’s family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to Bernard’s extended family and friends for their constant love and friendship – it meant the world to Bernard!
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a closed casket visitation which will be held on Saturday, October 01, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi, his Pastor, officiating.
