Bernadine ‘Dolly’ Kurpis, 90, formerly of McHale Street, Swoyersville entered into eternal life on Monday morning, April 21, 2025, at the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter, where she was a guest for a short time.
Her beloved husband of 31 years was the late Joseph J. Kurpis, who passed away on November 03, 1989.
Born on November 08, 1934, in Swoyersville, Bernadine was one of two daughters born to the late Stephen Major and Mary Yedinak Major.
Residing in Swoyersville all her life, Bernadine was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1952.
Prior to her retirement, Bernadine was employed by both the former Circle Cleaners, Forty Fort and Wyoming Seminary Lower School, Forty Fort.
A devout Catholic, Bernadine was a lifelong member of the former Saint John Nepomucene Church, Luzerne and upon its closure, she became a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne. At both Saint John’s Church and Holy Family Parish, she was a proud member of the Altar and Rosary Society and participated in many fundraisers and social events over the years.
Bernadine had countless enjoyments in life, most especially socializing, traveling, and eating pizza.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Joseph S. (Nadine) Kurpis, Pilesgrove, New Jersey; Brenda (Mark) Stanchak, Larksville; Kristin (Brett) Sarnoski, Bloomsburg; and Brian (Jessica) Kurpis, Bluffton, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Mark Stanchak, Pittston; Isabella, Gabrielle, and Joseph Kurpis, New Jersey; Ryan, Alex, and Anna Sarnoski, Bloomsburg; and Emma Kurpis, South Carolina, who will all greatly miss her; her sister, Marie (Jack) Urban, Swoyersville; her longtime companion, Bob Zukosky; as well as her many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bernadine’s family would like to especially thank the staff of the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – their excellence in care as well as the ability to comfort all of us during difficult days will never be forgotten. We would also like to recognize the caring and comforting staff at Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a closed casket visitation which will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne, followed by the celebration of Bernadine’s Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
The Kurpis Family entrusted Bernadine’s funeral arrangements to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
