Arthur H. Long, 84, a resident of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following a brief illness.
His loving wife is Irene Pieck Long. Together, Arthur and Irene celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on July 14th.
Born on September 7, 1939, in Wyoming, Arthur was the son of the late Henry Long and Margaret Hughes Long.
Arthur was a member of the 1957 graduating class of the former Wyoming High School, and he honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961.
Prior to his retirement, Arthur was employed for over 20 years as a Customer Service Supervisor for Western Union.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Arthur was especially devoted to his grandsons, spending as much time with them as possible. He was a great fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles, and always enjoyed trips to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Lancaster County.
In addition to his wife, Irene, Arthur is survived by his sons, David Long and his wife, Theresa, Mountain Top; and Gary Long and his wife Mary, Pittston; his grandsons, Morgan and Noah Long; his sister, Elaine Buxton; and his several nieces and nephews.
The Long Family would like to extend their gratitude to the ICU nursing staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion during his illness, as well as the nursing staff at Mountain Top Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their care over of Arthur over the past year.
The viewing and funeral service will be private for the immediate family. A Blessing Service will be celebrated by the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Plains Township, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.
