Arlene Lawrence Coughlin, 73, a longtime resident of Catonsville, Maryland, originally from Swoyersville, entered into eternal rest on Saturday evening, December 26, 2015, at Ridgeway Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Catonsville, Maryland.
Her loving husband is James P. Coughlin. Together, James and Arlene shared 37 years of marriage.
Born on September 18, 1942, in Kingston, Arlene was one of seven children born to the late Andrew F. Lawrence and Margaret E. (Mikitish) Lawrence.
Raised in Swoyersville, Arlene was a graduate of the former West Side Central Catholic High School, Class of 1960.
After high school, Arlene went on to further her education at College Misericordia, Dallas, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Foods and Nutrition in 1964. In 1973, she received her Master’s Degree in Nutrition Education from the University of Maryland, and in 1991, she received her Master’s Degree in Health Science Administration from Towson University, Maryland.
Arlene was an Assistant Professor at the Mercy School of Nursing, Baltimore, Maryland, and also at the University of Maryland. Additionally, she was the Chief Dietician for the Howard County Department of Health; a dietician for the State of Maryland Department of Health; and a dietician for the Ridgeway Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she later became a resident due to the illness that eventually claimed her life.
A faithful Catholic, Arlene was a member of Saint Mark’s Parish, Catonsville, Maryland. As a young woman, she was a member of the former Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, now known as Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.
In addition to her parents, Andrew and Margaret Lawrence, Arlene was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Linda Lawrence, wife of her brother Andrew.
In addition to her husband, James, Arlene is survived by her brothers and sister, Andrew Lawrence, Swoyersville; Robert Lawrence and his wife, Kathleen, Bear Creek; Mary Lawrence Sullivan, Swoyersville; Dr. Stephen Lawrence and his wife, Ann Marie, West Pittston; Dr. Joseph Lawrence and his wife, Debra, Gillette, Wyoming; Attorney Paul Lawrence and his wife, Laura, Charlotte, North Carolina; and her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Saturday, January 02, 2016, at 9:30 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
