Arlene Anastasia Gomba, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Tuesday morning, November 30, 2021, at her home, with her daughter and son at her side.

Her loving husband was the late Andrew Gregory Gomba who passed away September 16, 2019. Arlene and Andrew were blessed to have been married for 67 years.

Born on February 14, 1929, in Swoyersville, Arlene was the daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Karcutskie) Miller.

A graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1946, Arlene went on to further her education at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with the Class of 1950. Arlene was very honored to serve as a Registered Nurse and would show her nurse’s cap and pin with pride. She began her career at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and later assisted Dr. Lester E. Jordan, Oral Surgeon, for many years. She also provided care as a private duty Registered Nurse.

Arlene was a devout member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville, holding membership with its Altar and Rosary Society. Active within her church, she assisted with countless church fundraisers for many years.

Family meant the world to Arlene, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, Ryan and Claire. She shared with them her passion for baking, and her “Nana bread” was legendary, along with her special Christmas cheesecake and nut kolachi.

Beside her love of entertaining family and friends at her home (which she did with the utmost style and grace), both Arlene and Andy loved to travel. They enjoyed many cruises together and their vacations in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. They also cherished the family vacations they took to North Carolina, upstate New York, and Disney World.

In addition to her parents, Jacob and Margaret Miller, and her husband, Andrew, Arlene was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Joseph Gomba; and her brother, Jacob Miller.

Arlene is survived by her two children, Karen Gomba, Swoyersville; and George Gomba and his wife, Karen, Ridgefield, Connecticut; her two grandchildren, Ryan Gomba, San Francisco, California; and Claire Gomba, Boulder, Colorado; her sister-in-law, Judy Gomba, Lehigh Acres, Florida; as well as her nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Matthew Joseph and the nurses at the Geisinger Dallas Clinic for the excellent care they provided Arlene over the last three years, most especially during the last month of her life. They would also like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s Emergency Room, as well as the nurses and staff from Residential Hospice, for the care and compassion that they bestowed upon Arlene during her time of need. Also, a special thank you to Kim Janosky, physical therapist from Superior Health Services.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, December 06, 2021, at 9:00 AM from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by an Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy to be celebrated at 9:30 AM in Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 271 Tripp Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Andrii Dumnych, her Pastor, officiating.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and Friends are invited to attend Arlene’s viewing which will be held on Sunday, December 05, 2021, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Panachida Services will be celebrated on Sunday evening at 5:00 PM by the Reverend Andrii Dumnych. The Altar and Rosary Society of Saint Nicholas Church will recite the Rosary for the repose of Arlene’s soul on Monday morning at 9:00 AM in the church.
