Anna Cervenak, 77, of Forty Fort, beloved partner of Max Bartikowsky, entered into eternal life on Friday, July 24, 2015, at Celtic Healthcare Hospice at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Forty Fort, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Feco) Cervenak.
Anna graduated from Forty Fort High School, attended King’s College, and completed her Bachelors of Social Work degree at College Misericordia. She went onto Marywood University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work. A member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda, Social Work Honor Society, Anna was elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Anna started her career at Bell of Pennsylvania while still in high school. She worked as an operator, in engineering, and as the company’s public speaker. When she retired from Verizon in 2007, she was Director of Community Relations/Public Affairs.
Anna was the past President of Step-By-Step, Greater Wilkes-Barre Association for the Blind, Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus, Junior Achievement, Luzerne County Community College Foundation, Great Valley Technology Alliance, and NEPA Alliance. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of Penn’s Northeast, Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry, Athena Award Committee, Victim’s Resource Center, Catholic Youth Center, Catholic Social Services, King’s College President’s Council, and Circle 200. She also chaired the Blue Ribbon Committee to save Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Anna’s awards included the 2011 Great Women of Northeast PA, Athena Award, Top 50 Business Women in PA, Top Business Women in Northeastern PA, Arthritis Foundation Community Leader of the Year, Susan B. Roebling Distinguished Citizen Award, Wyoming Valley Woman’s Pathfinder Award, NEPA Boy Scouts Woman of the Year Award, Anti-Defamation League Distinguished Citizen Award, Wyoming Seminary Tower Society, and the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame.
Anna’s generosity, volunteerism and extraordinary community service to Northeastern PA is both legendary and inspiring.
In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her brothers, George Cervenak, Jr. and John Cervenak; as well as her sister-in-law, Peg (Corcoran) Cervenak.
In addition to Max Bartikowsky, she is survived by her niece, Meg Brown (Derek); her nephews, John Cervenak, Jr. (Nancy) and Rick Cervenak (Beth). She was the cherished great-aunt of Casey, Lindsay, Corinne, and Noah Cervenak; and Ryan, Kelly, and Steven Brown.
Anna is also survived by many dear friends who meant the world to her, including the Yellen and Melf families, as well as her extended family of Peggy, Malachi, Saretha, James, Jimmy, Jessica, Samara, Asher, Annah, Shayna, and Wally.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at 10:15 AM from Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Funeral Service to be celebrated at 11:00 AM in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 813 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, with the Reverend Paul Metzloff, her Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton.
