Andrew Henry Cebrick, 90, a lifelong resident of Swoyersville, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday afternoon, June 26, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Henry, as he was called by family and friends, married the love of his life, Dolores J. (Warick) Cebrick, on November 05, 1955, and together, they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on January 20, 1931, in Swoyersville, Henry and his siblings were first-generation Americans, and he was the youngest of thirteen children born to the late Wasil and Anastasia (Hvbowska) Cebrick.
Henry was a graduate of Swoyersville High School, Class of 1948.
A United States Air Force veteran, Henry honorably served his county in Wiesbaden, Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Prior to his retirement, Henry was employed for 33 years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, Kingston.
A faithful Catholic, Henry was a lifelong, deeply devoted, and the oldest living male member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville, and was a former member of its Holy Name Society. For 26 consecutive years during his retirement, he led the bi-annual “pirohy project”, the largest fundraiser of his parish.
Henry was a life-member of the American Legion, Andrew Lawrence Post 644, Swoyersville; a member of the Knights of Columbus, Assumpta Council 3987, Kingston, and a 4th Degree Member of the Our Lady of Czestochowa, Assembly 1928, Kingston; and was a member of the Greek Catholic Union, Lodge 443, District 5.
During the early part of his retirement, Henry enjoyed fishing with his wife and older grandchildren. Proud of his Ukrainian heritage, he instilled in his children the importance of the rich traditions passed down from his parents. The preparation for the holy days of Christmas and Easter were particularly special in the Cebrick home as Henry would involve his whole family in making his homemade pirohy and kielbasa, passing these traditions onto the next generation.
Known for his quiet and stoic demeanor, Henry was always kind and understanding. He was a wise and good listener, and a good provider for his family. His life was truly centered around his faith and his family. Although saying goodbye is never easy, we take comfort in knowing that memories last forever. He will be remembered as a man of deep faith and we trust that he is now resting in the arms God.
In addition to his parents, Wasil and Anastasia Cebrick, Henry was preceded in death by his twelve siblings: his brothers, baby John Cebrick who died at approximately 18 months old; Thomas, Charles, John, Michael, Paul, and Stephen Cebrick; and his sisters: Christine Staskiewicz, Mary Sobeck, Anna Stesney, Rose Stankiewicz and Louise Stacy.
Devoted to his wife and family, he will be sadly missed by his wife, Dolores; his daughters, Andrea Horton and her husband, Jeffrey, Exeter; and Dr. Joan Grossman and her husband, Lloyd, Swoyersville; his son, Daniel Cebrick, Swoyersville. He was the “best Poppy in the whole world” to his grandchildren, Adam Horton, Swoyersville; Sara Campa and her husband, Mike, Mount Pocono; and Jared, Caleb, and Ava Grossman, Swoyersville; and his great-grandson, Benjamin Campa, who for the past several years, was a highlight for him with regular visits. Henry is also survived by generations of nieces and nephews.
The Cebrick Family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Guy Fasciana and the nurses and staff from Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Lisa Paden R.N., and social worker, Chris Getz, for the compassionate and gentle care they bestowed upon Henry during his time of need.
